Regional Webinar on Effective Asset Recovery Measures, Legal Standards, Challenges and Good Practice

On 9 February 2021 the AIRE Centre in partnership with the Regional Anti-Corruption Initiative (RAI) and with the support of the UK Government organised a regional webinar on the topic of effective asset recovery and the legal standards, challenges and good practice involved.

The webinar was attended by asset recovery practitioners and representatives of justice institutions from across South East Europe.

The key speakers at the event were Judge Michael Hopmeier of Southwark Crown Court in the UK who spoke on the topic of whey, when and how to seize and confiscate criminal assets; Judge Mirjana Lazarova Trajkovska of the Supreme Court of North Macedonia who spoke on the relationship between asset recovery measures and human rights standards, especially those of the ECHR; Professor Eldan Mujanovic of the Law Faculty of the University of Sarajevo who spoke on recent extended asset confiscation case-law in BiH; and Judge Radmila Dragicevic-Dicic of the Supreme Court of Serbia who spoke on examples of good practice and lessons learned in relation to the asset-recovery system in Serbia.

The event was organised under the auspices of the AIRE Centre’s regional project dedicated.
