On 9 December 2020 the AIRE Centre in partnership with the Regional Anti-CorruptionInitiative (RAI) and with the Support of the UK Government organised the presentation of their report on the effective implementation of asset recovery measures in the Western Balkans through an overview of a regional monitoring methodology, key benchmarks and case studies of good practice.
The event was attended by asset recovery practitioners and representatives of judicial institutions from across South East Europe. The key speakers at the event were Professor Eldan Mujanovic of the University of Sarajevo and Judge Radmila Dragičević-Dičić of the Serbian Supreme Court of Cassation, who both discussed elements of the report.
The report included an overview of a regional monitoring methodology, best practice and steps forward, and presented the most important standards derived from international sources, in particular from the European Union. It provided a list of benchmarks and recommendations, with the aim of providing national authorities with useful and practical guidance for the establishment of a comprehensive, accurate and reliable system for collecting, processing and disseminating asset recovery data. The report also featured success stories presented in the form of case studies, covering different aspects of asset recovery. The event was organised under the auspices of the AIRE Centre’s regional project dedicated to strengthening cooperation in asset recovery practice in South East Europe in the fight against corruption and organised crime.
